I’d recommend doing it in the form of a Nikon camera. More specifically, the Nikon D800 
Oh yes I did.
A normal person would panic, but not me. I’m not normal.
I’m experienced at dropping thousands of dollars worth of camera equipment on the ground.
Only last time I did it (several years ago, mind you) it was the Nikon D2X camera body with an 80-200mm lens attached. In the middle of a session with a client. And I dropped it on the sidewalk outside our studio.
That time I panicked. (Because I used to be normal.) But after quickly determining that everything was working just fine, we carried on with our session and never had an issue with that camera or lens.
So while last week’s debacle on the double decker did cause me to string together a few profanities, I had faith.
And after Keith pried the lens cap off of the cracked filter …. USE A FILTER
Par for the course with our previous Nikon experiences. High five Nikon people.
Now, if you’re wondering why Keith continues to let me carry the camera, here’s his answer: (shrugging) “It’s a Nikon. Stuff happens. And it’s insured. Also, I just pre-ordered a D810

My mom who is very accident prone has almost always had a nikon. I’ve seen her drop those bad boys multiple times and luckily they’ve all been able to withstand the tumbles.
Yeah, I’ve got to hand it to the Nikon people – I’m continually impressed. And will continue to put my faith in them 😉
OOF! Glad it survived. That just reminded me that my own filter has gone missing…must replace stat.
Not my favorite part of the trip, but SO relieved that $15 filter was on there!
Thank you for this great reminder to use a filter. Just about to buy a new DSLR, all my lenses are very old and not compatible with new DSLR’s so for the first time in 20years I can change brand. But I am sticking with Nikon – my first question in my local camera shop, which brand at the entry level of DSLR’s are most robust against accidents – Nikon:) Accidents happen, glad I’m not the only one!
I totally relate, I drop things all the time. I once broke 6 phones in one summer just from dropping them. Also Mayhem is the cutest little girl alive. 🙂
I remember my photography teacher drilling it into my head to put the strap around my neck ALWAYS. To this day I feel weird if I don’t do it! Has saved me (and my Nikon) several times. I am glad yours was ok!
